All video related questions and discussion is intended for this thread. Here we discuss techniques, gear and anything else related to capturing video footage. Please don't pretend to be an expert if you don't know what you're talking about. Kindly leave your ego at the door.
Posting short films/scripts or other work you've done is encouraged.
We tend to use and recommend DSLRs/mirrorless cameras because they provide phenomenal picture quality for their price, have large sensors (ie the same size used in high-end cinema cameras and higher) and have interchangeable lenses.
In contrast, consumer camcorders often have much smaller sensors and a fixed lens.

So basically Arri built the optical viewfinder into a digital cinema camera because Rodger Deakins asked them to do it; I wish more camera companies would listen to the people who used their cameras. Just typical nagging stuff. She doesn’t want to eat and is wasting away to nothing. I think it’s anorexia and a cry for attention. ISO 100 is where you start to lose detail to grain texture.
Lower than ISO 100 and you start to see softness in images, dynamic range below 100 tends to be sketchy, your shadow details get muddy.

100 and 400 were seen as the standard with film cameras because 100 was for optimal sunny conditions and 400 was recoverable for most other conditions.

What's the best camera for shooting photography like this?

I realize Todd Hido uses a couple different Leicas (which I cannot afford)

will Ricoh griii be good for this? I have a Nikon d70s and find it's hard to use.

Also. I think because the subject matter is so boring my cell phone can't really do it well enough.

>Negative film is shot 1 or 2 stops overexposed and then PULLED in development so that you build more density in the exposure and develop less such that the fog is limited
>slide/positive film is shot at box speed or overexposed and pulled.
>if you home develop you can also use benzotriazole as a restrainer for the the first developer in E6 process

1 16x20 sheet of glass costs 10 dollars and makes 16 4x5 plates if you can perfectly cut the glass.

This is the absolute cheapest way to shoot large format at less than 1 dollar per plate all materials included.

I just found out these can be really useful for more than just macro, which I found out that are great for getting a 1:1 ratio on your subject.

What I didn't know is something like a 105mm/2.8 also makes an outstanding portrait lens along with even an all-around good prime lens. Also typically it'll be cheaper than a similar fast lens.

Is this really the best type of lens for all pictures until you need some kind of zoom?

That's a pointless comparison, you CAN'T focus closer on average long primes.

As does F, the aperture is automatically reduced as you focus closer, at least with the lens I have. It really does not matter anyway, you do not want to shoot 1:1 at f/2.8.

Definitely go eat in Queens. Astoria Seafood is sick, Jackson Heights has a bunch of great Indian and Nepalese joints, Flushing has the best Chinese food.

Downtown Brooklyn is kind of office-y, the Dumbo waterfront is bougie and gentrified af, but still kinda nice to wander through. I like Prospect Park and surrounding area quite a bit, there’s a good cheap pool hall on Flatbush, Oceans 8. Check out Red Hook maybe, cool area. Public Records and Nowadays are great for dancing, PR has the better sound system.

You can't tell me one real pro of crop sensors. There's absolutely no point of APS-C when full frame exists. It's not as small, compact or economical as micro four thirds nor do you get the resolution and capability of FF. I guess it's just so that people can feel like they're larping as FF. FF is isn't even that much more expensive most of the time so being a poorfag is the only excuse

There are 4 types of Leicamen

>1. "Affluent but clueless"
Utterly clueless but benign, just bought a leica because it is the most expensive and therefore the best, simple as. Likely uses a 1D to shoot his cat and a Noctilux to shoot action figures.

>2. "I just want a Leica, I JUST want a Leica"
They want a leica just because they want a leica and they will never be happy without a leica. Probably bought an MP/MA on finance or own an M8. Would probably make identical images with a Cosina CT-1.

>3. "It takes the best photos"
Are under the impression that leica cameras simply produce the best photos, end of. Most likely to be a retired dentist. 'Glow', 'Emotion', 'Build quality' etc. Thinks a 12-month CLA turnaround is "reasonable" for german "quality".

>4. "The Collector"
Just collects them like people collect watches. Probably does not even use them.
