Go /p/ro:
• Please post images that are JPG format and ideally smaller than 1 MB, and/or about 1000 pixels on the longest side.
• Expect to be judged harshly. Learn to deal with it.

Want:
• We come here for photos, so post yours as often as possible, even if "image unrelated" to your text.
• "Flickr/500px/Tumblr/Facebook/Portfolio" threads are for critique and networking.
• Use "Recent Photos" threads if you are shy or only want to post a couple of photos.
• Shared raw files which we can collectively edit for discussion of post-processing techniques, are encouraged.
• Use the Catalog to consolidate similar topics (photographic themes, images or technical gear threads).

Do not want:
• Go to /wsr/ or /r/ for specific Photoshop requests.
• Gear threads are discouraged, but identified as necessary. Many users simply hide these threads.

Pre-summer 2024 edition

All video related questions and discussion is intended for this thread. Here we discuss techniques, gear and anything else related to capturing video footage. Please don't pretend to be an expert if you don't know what you're talking about. Kindly leave your ego at the door.
Posting short films/scripts or other work you've done is encouraged.
We tend to use and recommend DSLRs/mirrorless cameras because they provide phenomenal picture quality for their price, have large sensors (ie the same size used in high-end cinema cameras and higher) and have interchangeable lenses.
In contrast, consumer camcorders often have much smaller sensors and a fixed lens.

So basically Arri built the optical viewfinder into a digital cinema camera because Rodger Deakins asked them to do it; I wish more camera companies would listen to the people who used their cameras. I love the optical viewfinder because it looks so cool—analog+digital—it is super awesome and super sweet.

Just typical nagging stuff. She doesn’t want to eat and is wasting away to nothing. I think it’s anorexia and a cry for attention. So until she is able to get by w/o all of my attention, I won’t be able to film anything unless I like through my teeth and make it sound like it’s all about her when it’s really not about her. As long as she thinks it’s about her she’ll let me film stuff. I just want to be able to film stuff w/o needing to be deceptive.

Better than being obese I guess.

What does she do when you go out anyway?

Is the r5c worth it? I heard it has shit battery life. I mostly shoot 1080p tho so should I get the r6 instead?

Its not.
It should be iso 25
>>
ISO 100 is where you start to lose detail to grain texture.
Lower than ISO 100 and you start to see softness in images, dynamic range below 100 tends to be sketchy, your shadow details get muddy.

100 and 400 were seen as the standard with film cameras because 100 was for optimal sunny conditions and 400 was recoverable for most other conditions.
>>
Glorious ISO 64 in Nikon is better than 100 in all situations.
>>
>>4309628
Iso 200 for digital cameras not made by liars
>>
>>4309636
most ISOs are overrated actually, ie iso 100 = 70 on sony and canon, 50 on olympus and fuji

nikon’s native iso 64 is actually 50

why so desaturated

What's the best camera for shooting photography like this?

I realize Todd Hido uses a couple different Leicas (which I cannot afford)

will Ricoh griii be good for this? I have a Nikon d70s and find it's hard to use.

Also. I think because the subject matter is so boring my cell phone can't really do it well enough.

/fgt/ daily reminder (courtesy by anon): one stop per decade is (generally) bullshit
>negative film ages better than positive
>black and white better than color
>slow films better than fast
>storage conditions (dry/cool) matter more than years
>Negative film is shot 1 or 2 stops overexposed and then PULLED in development so that you build more density in the exposure and develop less such that the fog is limited
>slide/positive film is shot at box speed or overexposed and pulled.
>if you home develop you can also use benzotriazole as a restrainer for the the first developer in E6 process

1 16x20 sheet of glass costs 10 dollars and makes 16 4x5 plates if you can perfectly cut the glass.

This is the absolute cheapest way to shoot large format at less than 1 dollar per plate all materials included.
>>
>>4309603
I’ve never done plate glass before, how do you keep the chemicals on the glass?
>>
>>4309616
eggs.
I am not shitting on you
>>
>>4309616
You add a small amount of amino silane to your colloidion. It helps it stick to the glass.
>>
>>4309530
yea there's the pancake 40mm

I just found out these can be really useful for more than just macro, which I found out that are great for getting a 1:1 ratio on your subject.

What I didn't know is something like a 105mm/2.8 also makes an outstanding portrait lens along with even an all-around good prime lens. Also typically it'll be cheaper than a similar fast lens.

Is this really the best type of lens for all pictures until you need some kind of zoom?

>>
>>4309479
most macro lenses actually lose stops of light as they focus closer, starting at pedestrian distances such as 1:5 reproduction ratios, because of the unique design principles. at mfd this is a t4.5 lense.

the Z cameras auto-correct the AE for it, but you are getting less light if you focus closer than the average long prime could
>>
>>4309580
>but you are getting less light if you focus closer than the average long prime could
That's a pointless comparison, you CAN'T focus closer on average long primes.
>the Z cameras auto-correct the AE
As does F, the aperture is automatically reduced as you focus closer, at least with the lens I have. It really does not matter anyway, you do not want to shoot 1:1 at f/2.8.
>>
>>4309619
Why not? I’m stupid.
>>
>>4309622
You actually have the DOF of f2.8 at 1:1

It's the light transmission of f4.5
>>
>>4309623
So it doesn’t really matter then when using a tripod or additional lighting.

Going to NYC for the first time in June. Will be staying in downtown Brooklyn for the first half of the week and then I'm not sure for the second half. Thinking Astoria. What area will have unique street opportunities within walking distance? Manhattan seems overdone to me but maybe I should think more outside the box. Queens gives me GTA 4 vibes that have been lingering in my mind for 16 years.

Definitely go eat in Queens. Astoria Seafood is sick, Jackson Heights has a bunch of great Indian and Nepalese joints, Flushing has the best Chinese food.

Downtown Brooklyn is kind of office-y, the Dumbo waterfront is bougie and gentrified af, but still kinda nice to wander through. I like Prospect Park and surrounding area quite a bit, there’s a good cheap pool hall on Flatbush, Oceans 8. Check out Red Hook maybe, cool area. Public Records and Nowadays are great for dancing, PR has the better sound system.
>>
>>4309525
Thanks. Not big on the night scene. Or Eastern food. But I'll have to try the Chinese since this might be the only chance I have to get some decent stuff.
I'll be staying near Sunset park for the second half of my trip.

how many fotos do you save, how and where?

Does anyone still do microstock as a side hustle?

stock photos don't pay for shit anyway so I don't care. video is where it's at now
>>

>video is where it's at now
It is, but only a matter of time until they promote the AI shit and claim the real stuff has quality issues.
>>
yeah. just so I can join the coming class action lawsuit for them using my photos to train their shitty gen ai
>>
>>4308636
that's because they use AI to vet their application process and it doesn't notice it's own gaussian noise bs. You basically need to use AI upscaling tools to get approved on their garbage stock site
>>
>>4309604
you probably agreed to it when you signed up dumbass

You can't tell me one real pro of crop sensors. There's absolutely no point of APS-C when full frame exists. It's not as small, compact or economical as micro four thirds nor do you get the resolution and capability of FF. I guess it's just so that people can feel like they're larping as FF. FF is isn't even that much more expensive most of the time so being a poorfag is the only excuse

Oh boy another sensor size thread... how original ...

When will it end.

lmao dead mount
>>

>M43 makes sense.
I'm a brainlet, why is m43 better / different that aps-c?
>>
>>4309611
Because he's a gear collector and aps-c is just a touch too close to full frame, so he'd rather buy a much worse camera just to have more variety on his increasingly dusty photography shelf

To be frank, micro four thirds has no point unless you think shooting wildlife with a telephoto that functions and renders like someone stacked TCs on full frame sounds appealing, or intend to spend <$1k on your camera and multiple lenses.

Leicafags are an interesting species.
This is a thread to try and comprehend the minds of these consumerist retards.
Their subreddit, the premier place for Leica fans, has a rule explicitly stating that any photos need to "demonstrate a skill or technique that is incredibly difficult to execute correctly, has not been seen before, or both"
All the photos in the subreddit do not fit this idiotic criteria, yet are lauded.
99% of the posts there are about people buying gear instead of photos.
They care more about being seen with a Leica than actually using it.

thought this was the guy above you's picture and got excited and thought "hey he took a good one"
>>
There are 4 types of Leicamen

>1. "Affluent but clueless"
Utterly clueless but benign, just bought a leica because it is the most expensive and therefore the best, simple as. Likely uses a 1D to shoot his cat and a Noctilux to shoot action figures.

>2. "I just want a Leica, I JUST want a Leica"
They want a leica just because they want a leica and they will never be happy without a leica. Probably bought an MP/MA on finance or own an M8. Would probably make identical images with a Cosina CT-1.

>3. "It takes the best photos"
Are under the impression that leica cameras simply produce the best photos, end of. Most likely to be a retired dentist. 'Glow', 'Emotion', 'Build quality' etc. Thinks a 12-month CLA turnaround is "reasonable" for german "quality".

>4. "The Collector"
Just collects them like people collect watches. Probably does not even use them.
>>
>>4309503
>Thinks a 12-month CLA turnaround is "reasonable" for german "quality"
Of course, that's why every Leicaman needs a second one, as a backup.
You can't rush art.

You can't guess Flickr and Instagram?

>>4308712
>bump after 1 hour.
/p/ is a slow board. For context, 10 hours later your thread is on page 2.
>>
>>4308708
flickr might still be the best option desu
>>
Flickr is for photography, instagram is for advertising your personal "influencer" brand and getting exposure by convincing AI controlled profiles to latch on to you, 500px is for feeding chinese AI
>>
>>4309560
>Flickr is for boomer photography
fixed that for you
>>
>>4309609
>man these boomers
>whats their deal
>no likes, no follows
>they SHOW me shit in person instead of letting the AI decide if i'd like it first
>what faggots
>i dont need to talk to people i got chatgpt
Social media is cancer. banning it would cause mass shootings to halt and cause the return of real art(tm).
